Rafael and his gold ring is a strange story of murder, mystery and love.

Rafael is a poor fisherman, who has gone mad.

Did he go mad for love of a girl, or

because he saw or committed some terrible action?

There is a first-person witness narrator, the doctor, who retells the mysterious story of mad Rafael, Anita, the dead soldier and the ring after fourteen years. Yet only one person actually knows what happened that terrible night and, in his madness, Rafael cannot tell anyone anything useful.

The reader knows instinctively that Rafael either did something or saw something terrible. However, as each person gives their entirely truthful account of events, the web of confusion increases.

MY FAVOURITE CHAPTER

Miguel retells the story of the soldier who came to the village on an engine boat and fell in love with Anita.

He was clever and first became friends with Anita’s father at his shop. The curious thing is when we know Anita disappeared in the air and also the soldier was never seen again. Interesting!!

According to village gossip, the soldier seduced Anita who as a young girl gave him his heart and He took her away forever.

Coincidence...That night Santiago’s donkey went missing,

The worst chapter

Marta decides to talk about what she saw on the night Anita disappeared. BUT how can we accept her commnets honestly? Is it jelousy?

She says she remembers her sister packing her things to leave with her lover. She perhaps was in love with him too? Her feelings and what she says are contradictory , aren't they?

true prince. Marta assumed that this meant she was eloping with the soldier and that she would give the ring back to Rafael first.

Perhaps was Marta who really WROTE Anita`s story....WHO knows??
