International Day 8-M

It’s nearly International Day of the Girl,
a moment of global discussion about the way
today’s girls are raised and respected.

Mattel’s Barbie brand is coming out swinging with a powerful spot in advance of the Thursday event.  (Oct 2018)

In its new spot from BBDO San Francisco, the global Barbie marketing team highlights “The Dream Gap,” described as the rift that “comes between girls and their full potential.” Young girls do the talking for themselves in this video, making it especially potent to hear stats
The brand is working with researchers at New York University, and hopes to extend that initiative in other partnerships around the world.
It also will highlight "at least 10 empowering female role models each year globally."Though Barbie is often criticized for perpetuating negative stereotypes with her impossibly lean physique, the brand has worked hard in recent years to portray a modern image.

The Dream Gap       let's talk about the dream gap.
what's that?
it's the gap that comes between girls and their full potential
you seestarting at age five girls stop believing they can be… presidents      scientists  astronaut      big thinkers    engineers  CEOs    and the list goes on
why?because what else are we going to believe when we are three times less likely to be given a science related toy?
that's sad

and when our parents are twice as likely to Google is my son gifted? than is my daughter gifted?
that's not cool.
we need to see brilliant women being brilliant
and see how they got towhere they are to imagine ourselves soon in what they do
but we can't do it alone
moms dads brothers and bosses we need all of you to help
we need to close the dream gap it's up to all of us
