Dealing with WR_2.Draw conclusions from the graph
do NOT describe it.
- Brands on Facebook
- Americans like Walmart
PART1. Language work
Back in October 2011, Facebook launched a new metric titled “People Talking About,” which helps page owners see how many users are talking about or mentioning them at any given time.
PS: While Coca-Cola remains the top brand on Facebook, it can’t compete with recording artist Shakira. Although she has less fans at around 69 million, over 2.5 million people are talking about her.
TASK 0. What are the (two) main conclusions we can draw from this graph?
You will find more statistics at Statista
TASK 1a. What are the
changes in these 3 intro paragraphs
a) b) and c) ?
a) This graph illustrates
the 10 most popular corporate brands on Facebook. It shows a list, ranked in
decreasing order, based on people’s talking in August, 19th 2015.
b) Coca Cola is a recognized brand known around the
world, but which is its real impact in social networks? This graph illustrates
the 10 most popular corporate brands on Facebook. It shows a list, ranked in
decreasing order, based on people’s talking in August, 19th 2015.
c) Granted, iconic brands have
always been a recognized money power worldwide, but in the VR we might wonder
which is its real impact in social networks. This graph above provided by
Statista illustrates the 10 most popular corporate brands on Facebook. The bar
is given in a list, ranked in decreasing order, based on people’s talking in summer
2015.
TASK 1b. Can you
enhance this intro paragraph? Write a similar paragraph, changing the syntax, adding
one sentence and rephrasing some of the clauses above.
TASK 2a. Underline quality language expressions
in the body of the text.
To begin with, it’s clearly
seen Coca Cola leading the ranking with just over a million of comments on
Facebook, but we can’t ignore the fact that Avon is a qualified runner-up with
slightly less than a million. Interestingly enough, Walmart and Disney enjoy a great
number of comments around three quaRters of a million; and Samsung and Intel
lag behind on the threshold of the 600,000. These six brands reach well over
two thirds of the total of people’s talking taking into account the top ten.
Finally, in the last
positions we can appreciate 4 brands: Bud Light, Guarana Antarctica, NBA and
Visa. Each of these brands has shown a similar trend, reaching around half a
million comments. Moreover, it’s important to emphasize the fact that Coca Cola
displays a two-fold increase at the comments of the least commented brand. Overall,
we could be aware about which are the most important brands on Facebook.
TASK2b. Copy the best
four expressions where the writer relates to figures.
TASK 3a. Underline quality language expressions
in this final paragraph.
In conclusion, it’s obvious
that Coca cola has the bulk of this ranking, but we have to pose a question on
us: is there a correlation between
this result and the marketing? All of us know that Coca cola is an icon
and has achieved a tremendous symbolism in our society, but this brand has
known adapted through the years, so that even with new technologies. For this
reason, Coca cola is the most popular brand in the networks, far from other
soft drink in the market.
TASK 3b. Can you see some minor changes? Do they enhance this final paragraph?
In conclusion, it’s obvious
that Coca cola has the bulk of this ranking, but we have to pose a question on ourselves:
is there a correlation between this result and the brand market share? All of
us know that Coca cola is an iconic brand... which has achieved a tremendous symbolism in our society as a
family brand, which has known how to adapt throughout the years, which even
with new social media tools around it is ahead of its competitors. For this
reason, Coca cola has kept the top ranking as the most popular brand in the
networks, far from other firms (on the drink sector or whatever) in the market.
TASK 3c. Can you
enhance this final paragraph?
Write a similar paragraph, changing
the syntax,
adding one sentence and rephrasing some of the clauses below.
Rounding off:
PART2. Language is fun: Do it yourself
