George Orwell and the British Battalion in the peninsula-1937

In December 1936, Orwell traveled to Spain, where he joined one of the international brigades in the Spanish Civil War.

When Orwell was dining with the best-selling writer Henry Miller, the Briton's motives where ridiculised by the American in this way:

Orwell was badly injured during his time with a militia, getting shot in the throat and arm.

  • Does anybody know about this thick volume book on this city by R. Hughes? colossal!!!

“I became a Barcelona enthusiast, as near as I can recall, in the spring of 1966. I hardly knew a word of Spanish, let alone Catalan, but I went there for the oblique reason that I was fanatically keen on George Orwell and wanted to see the place to which he had his homage—the city in Europe about which that insular Englishman felt moved to write with wholehearted affection.”
